“The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan 1811–2011”

The story of how New York became a city of straight streets intersecting at corners—instead of one with roads that curve and meander—comes alive in this exhibition. Young cartographers can check out some of the most important artifacts of early New York, including ten hand-colored maps that dramatize the radical reorganization of the city that the grid required.
