Dusting isn’t usually an activity kids are interested in. In fact, it’s usually right up there with dreaded tasks like vacuuming and eating broccoli. But seriously—when a replica of the iconic 94-foot-long blue whale getting cleaned, it’s a guaranteed whale of a time (see what we did there?)

On September 7 during museum hours, families will get to see Museum Exhibition Department Staff use long-handled brushes, vacuums and lifts to brush off one of New York’s most beloved models from a safe perch on the mezzanine. The fiberglass critter (crafted as a realistic model for the largest creature that has ever lived, discovered in 1925), weighs 21,000 pounds. Regular museum admission required.

Not able to make it? The cleaning will be streamed here from 11am–noon on Wednesday, September 7. Be sure to check out more cool kids' museums, free museum days and our favorite indoor activities for kids too!
