Flatotel prides itself on its spacious rooms—hence the "flat" reference—and it succeeds on that front. A standard room averages 350 square feet and many are substantially larger. On top of that, most come with a fridge and microwave, making it convenient for an extended stay. The overall feel, from the striped chairs in the lobby to the big dishes at the restaurant, is a European take on American proportions. But although it offers reasonable rates in a central location near Rockefeller Center and MoMA, the accommodation has lost a bit of luster (some of the televisions are old tube-style, carpets show signs of wear and the gym could do with an upgrade).
