New York’s social scene is jam-packed when it comes to activities for families, but what happens when you mix out-of-this-world animation, live actors, breathtaking sets, cool technology, hands-on challenges and a great story into a 60-minute experience that has it all?

Founders Rania and Rami Ajami explored each of these concepts with Pip’s Island, a first-of-its-kind theatrical journey that blends education, digital animation and immersive play into a fantasy set that guests can walk, run, skip, and even fly through, earning rewards as they accomplish exciting tasks along the way.

On the Island, children will find friendly characters named Pip (the adventurer), Pebble (the engineer) and Finn (the thinker), all embodied by charming actors who are there to guide them through the journey. Together, they will figure out what combination of real-life actions power up a wooden ship, design and assemble faux pastries to save a new friend and ultimately save the Island. While you’re waiting for your reservation to Pip’s Island, get a sense of the cool things you’ll touch, see and hear when you get there in the preview below! Haven’t grabbed your tickets yet? You can do so at pipsisland.com or by calling 866-811-4111. See you there!

SEE

SEE

Your adventure at Pip’s Island will lead you through 12 distinct and fascinating environments. Each of these destinations will feature animated characters, live actors who lead the way, and amazing special effects. Some of the most exciting things you'll see include a 14-foot Kinetic Tree (made of clear polycarbonate tubing…it untwists to reveal a portal!), and a quarter-scale puppet ship complete with spinning propellers, balloons, a wooden hull and hoisting ropes. You'll also find a cast of larger-than-life human-operated creatures and puppets (some as tall as nine feet!) that will speak and interact with explorers, making the journey more magical than anything they have ever seen.

TOUCH

TOUCH

Pip’s Island extends to over 10,000 square feet, and the adventure and its activities are specially designed to incorporate STEAM-based learning (science, technology, engineering, art and math), fostering skills like creative problem solving, hypothesizing and working as a team. Within the immersive journey led by actors, guests (children and their accompanying adults) will solve puzzles and complete challenges that enable them to progress while providing a rewarding sense of accomplishment. Children will reach out and touch hand-crafted pompom shrubs and a magical shell that can be used to communicate. During each activity, play is at the core, as kids are physically involved—they'll act out adventures, turn wheels, pull ropes and more. It’s almost like being inside a video game, with live characters that join in. Plus, during the Connect Spark (a challenge you can earn a Spark Badge for), the group works together to create a human circuit, which then lights up the children’s badges (marking that the challenge has been solved).

HEAR

HEAR

This isn’t your average seated theater experience—there is no "audience," and all guests are participants! This being said, a unique soundtrack does accompany this amazing adventure. You’ll also have the opportunity to sing along with original tunes that characters perform, experience custom sound effects and hear what digital (and physical) characters (your child’s new pals!) have to say as they guide you along your way. With up to 50 guests at any time, expect a loud, lively atmosphere full of laughter and problem-solving. Feeling shy? Children can participate as much or as little as they like—though we’re willing to bet they’ll dive right in.

Pip's Island is best suited to groups of children ages 4 to 10 and begins November 12 for a limited eight-week engagement in NYC through January 8. Skylight Modern, 537 W 27th St (866-811-4111, pipsisland.com). $50. Ages 4–10 (and their adult guardians).
