Camp Akeela

Catering specifically to kids and teens with Asperger’s syndrome or a nonverbal learning disability, this coed overnight program in Vermont strives to build a safe environment where campers feel comfortable socializing. For every two campers there is one adult, and Akeela staff includes experts in fields like child development and therapeutic interventions. The mixed-aged activities are customizable to suit the needs of each kid, and all activities—in sports, aquatics, arts and media, the outdoors—emphasize life skills. Ages 9–17.
