RECOMMENDED: More summer activities for kids
Outdoor summer concerts are a great excuse for NYC families to post up on blankets in the grass, enjoy the music and let the little ones run around. The shows aimed at adults are often fair game if you're looking for an alfesco hangout spot, but you won't want to miss out on these seasonal concerts designed just for kids! These live performances in NYC parks and other outdoor venues are a must when it comes to free summer activities for kids. They'll get acquainted with all different musical styles and jump in on plenty of outdoor activities—the upbeat artists will even have parents tapping their toes to the tunes!

Headlining the Central Park mainstage's family day are Shine and the Moonbeams, a funky, family-friendly group providing R&B tunes. The Noel Pointer Youth Orchestra, high-energy acrobatics crew The Red Trouser Show, dance troupe Batoto Yetu and a movement performance by Ziporah Roney and Collaborative Arists round out the lineup. Once a month during the spring and summer, FAB Alliance hosts live outdoor concerts for tots. This year's series kicks off with singer-songwriter and music therapist John Samson (May 15), followed by an interactive jam session with Moozika (June 19) and a fun class combining music, movement and dance from Shake, Rattle & Roll (July 17). Ages 1–5.
This Family Day kicks off with Alvin Ailey dancer and teacher Samuel Coleman who will teach a dance master class (3pm). Family Day entertainment includes Wycliffe Gordon, a trombonist known for his jazz arrangements with friends, followed by a genre-blending dance performance of B-Love's Hip Hop Jazzy Groove. Karisma Jay (of STOMP) & Abun Dance break it down to close out the day. For more information, visit cityparksfoundation.org. All ages.
