Time Out says

A group of American Civil War reenactors from the 119th New York Volunteer Infantry will be at the New-York Historical Society teaching visitors the history of Thanksgiving, which President Abraham Lincoln declared a federal holiday in 1863. Kids can see the military uniforms and gear up close, take part in a drill and even find out what the Civil War soldiers really ate on Turkey Day. Drop in at the DiMenna Children’s History Museum on the lower level, to explore 350 years of New York and American history through unique character-based, interactive pavilions. All ages.
