Mid-winter break is coming up fast, and your youngsters will have plenty of steam to blow off during their school recess! Starting with President's Day weekend, vacation runs through February 20 for most NYC schools, so we tracked down cool camps chock-full of fun, indoor activities to keep them busy. Kids get to create awesome art, see cooking demos from professional chefs and conduct scientific experiments at NYC museums and other institutions. All the camps and drop-off classes below had spots available at press time, but make sure to register your kids before they fill up. With so much for them to do, you'll hardly even notice they're out of school!

Intrepid Kids Week

The West Side vessel sponsors six days of kid-friendly activities (conveniently during students' winter break), each with their own theme. The 2015 program is all about flight; kids and families will learn about life in space and the science of aviation through workshops, live shows, demonstrations and craft projects. Study the stars in the pop-up planetarium, perfect your paper airplane and take in an awe–inspiring demo featuring live birds of prey. Special guests will include astronauts, scientists and children's book authors. Ages 5 to 17.

Kids get to be part of a team and make their own movie in a just one week at this creative camp. With guidance from experienced film technicians and teachers, the group works together to write a script, work with lights, cameras, sound equiment, and even a green screen before editing together their final product. Hardworking cinephiles get to munch on healthy snacks throughout the day, but must bring a bagged lunch. On day five, the kids show off their production to their family during a wrap party, complete with popcorn. Ages 8 to14. *Five spots left at press time!*

Over winter break, they'll explore the colorful art of manga and Japanese scripts called Kana, plus pick up a bit of the language along the way.
