Usher in the New Year in a positive manner at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, a bona fide New York institution. This year, the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra will perform selected works Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 6 in D Major and Johann Sebastian Bach. NBC's Harry Smith will offer seasonal reflections, which will be followed by settings of three spirituals by African-American composers, Adolphus Hailstork, William Dawson, and Moses Hogan. Special guests include Judy Collins, Jamet Pittman, Jason Robert Brown, and Elizabeth Stanley. The 2-hour program includes readings, meditations and festive music—including the traditional passing of candle flames and a performance in remembrance of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando on June 12, 2016. All ages.
