The 10 best cocktail recipes to try this week

We love love love cocktail bars in NYC, but sometimes we need to give our wallets a night off. That’s why we rounded up these cocktail recipes for you to make at home (and then humble-brag about on Instagram, obviously). Whether you’re into classic negronis or fabulous flaming cocktails, there’s a recipe for amateurs and cocktail connoisseurs alike.

1. The Some Like it Hot in Rio

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz Avuá Cachaça

½ oz sherry

¾ oz lime

¾ oz habanero syrup

¼ oz passion fruit

3 to 4 dashes of cayenne pepper powder, as garnish

1 dried red chili, as garnish

 

Directions:

 

Build all of the ingredients except the garnishes in a small shaker tin. Add 10 to 15 pieces of pebble ice and whip shake until the pebbles have dissolved. Pour contents into glass and top with pebble ice. Garnish with pepper and cayenne pepper powder.

2. The Girl Scout

Ingredients:

 

1 oz Fords Gin

¾ oz Branca Menta

¾ oz Marie Brizarrd crème de cacao

¾ oz lime juice

5 to 7 pieces of mint

Thin Mint cookie for garnish

 

Directions:

 

Add all ingredients to a tin. Add 10 pieces of pellet ice and whip shake. Pour all ingredients into a double rocks glass. Top with a mound of pebble ice and garnish with mint and Thin Mint.

3. Saude! Sangria

Ingredients:

 

¾ oz Leblon cachaça

¾ oz Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur

¾ oz white wine

½ oz blue curaçao liqueur

1 blackberry, muddled or crushed

1 strawberry, muddled or crushed

Club soda

 

Directions: 

 

Shake all ingredients and strain into a collins glass with ice. Top with club soda.

4. Shadow Boxer

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz Yaguara

¾ oz Campari

¾ oz Dolin Dry Vermouth

¼ oz Blume Apricot Eau de Vie

¼ oz Giffard Pamplemousse

 

Directions:

 

Stir up all ingredients. Add an orange twist for garnish.

5. Mia Wallace

Ingredients:

 

1 oz cacao-infused Avuá Prata Cachaça

½ oz Amaro Montenegro

½ oz condensed milk

½ oz whole milk

Shaved nutmeg for garnish

 

Directions:

 

Add ingredients to a shaker, add ice and shake lightly. Strain over a juice glass filled with crushed ice and top with shaved nutmeg.

6. Suffering is Optional

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz pineapple-infused Vida Mezcal

¾ oz Carpano

¼ oz Campari

¼ oz Giffard Banane du Bresil

¼ oz Giffard pamplemousse

 

Directions:

 

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a double rocks glass with ice and garnish with a half pineapple fan.

7. Golden #1

Ingredients:

 

1¼ oz Frangelico

¼ oz coffee syrup

2 dashes chocolate mole bitter

Prosecco

 

Directions:

 

Combine Frangelico, coffee syrup and chocolate bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain. Top off with prosecco.

8. Twin Lion

1½ oz Hochstadter's Rye Whiskey

¾ oz lemon

¾ oz sugar
 
Egg white
 
 
Directions:
 
Flash blend. Float over red wine.
 

9. Table for Two

Ingredients:

 

¼ part Frangelico

½ part St. Germain

Gruet (sparkling pinot noir) or champagne

Lemon horse’s neck for garnish

 

Directions:

 

Combine Frangelico and St. Germain in a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain. Top with Gruet or champagne and garnish with a lemon horse’s neck.

10. Avocado Daisy

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz Del Maguey Vida mezcal 

1 oz Avocado Business (equal parts avocado, water and sugar)

¾ oz Lime juice

2 dashes Hella Smoked Chili bitters

Pinch of smoked Alder salt

2 cucumber dials, as garnish

 

Directions:

 

Muddle cucumbers. Add all other ingredients and shake with ice. Strain to a double old fashioned glass and run with smoked alder salt. Garnish with a cucumber ribbon.
