Great news, Brooklyn brunchers: Gertie is being resurrected. The Jewish-American neo-luncheonette, which had been charming borough diners with its bubbe-approved menu of bialy sandwiches, whitefish salad and crispy latkes since 2019, broke local hearts when husband-wife owners Nate Adler and Rachel Jackson announced that the all-day restaurant would be closing its doors on June 15. However, after a Gertie-less few summer months, the resto is being revived at a new address this fall.

"We are so excited to announce that GERTIE will be reopening this Fall in Prospect Heights! We’re moving to 602 Vanderbilt Ave, taking over the space from our dear friends and Gertrude’s neighbors, @rdfoodsbk," the team announced in an Instagram post. Moving into the former dwellings of decades-old specialty shop R&D Foodswhich shut down on August 9—means that Gertie will now conveniently be neighbors with its sister spot Gertrude's

And fans of the original will be happy to hear that their menu favorites will be making the move: "You’ll find our hand-rolled and kettle-boiled bagels back on the menu, alongside house-smoked fish and meats, prepared foods, boozy sodas, and all your faves for takeaway," the social media post assured.

And that's not the only new projects in the work from the Adler-Jackson duo: they will also be debuting a brand-new restaurant, Trudie's Tavern, at 524 Court Street in Carroll Gardens. Longtime Brooklynites will recognize that address as the former home of neighborhood icon Buttermilk Channel, which closed this past December after nearly two decades. Jackson sees their Brooklyn expansion as an homage to those types of long-serving local haunts, telling Eater“The goal is, as it’s been at Gertrude’s and the new Gertie, is to carry on the legacy of these iconic neighborhood spots."

The new edition of Gertie is expected to launch this fall, with Trudie's Tavern to follow in winter. Stay tuned!
