Ready your running shoes: The NYC Marathon hits all five boroughs this Sunday, November 3!

With about 50,000 runners participating, and many more spectators along the 26.2 mile stretch, this is one of the biggest athletic events of the year. Whether you’re one of the brave souls lacing up for the race or you’re cheering someone on (or just looking to avoid traffic delays) read on for all the details you need to know leading up to the big day.

What time does the marathon start?
Marathoners start their course in Staten Island at the western end of Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and then run through BrooklynQueensManhattan and the Bronx before crossing the finish line in Central Park, just outside Tavern on the Green. The marathon event kicks off in waves with the earliest start time for runners taking place at 8:30am.

How do I track specific runners?
Once they're off to the races, if you want an easy way to track runners along the way, NYC Marathon now has an app called the TCS NYC Marathon, where users can share their location.

What streets will be closed for the NYC marathon?
The NYPD releases a list of street closures each year, and while it’s hefty, you can be prepared in advance. For starters, there will be lane closures on the Queensboro, Verrazzano, Madison Avenue and Pulaski bridges, along with the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Check out the full list here.
