Making friends as an adult in New York can be weirdly difficult. Making weekend plans to eat bagels? Considerably easier. This Saturday, Bumble BFF and PopUp Bagels are combining the two, bringing together free carbs and a built-in excuse to talk to strangers.
On Saturday, August 15, Bumble BFF is taking over the original PopUp Bagels location at 177 Thompson Street in Greenwich Village, turning the buzzy bagel shop into a temporary friendship hub. The event is part of the brands' ongoing BFF Bagel Tab, which has been picking up the check for New Yorkers’ bagel runs throughout the month.

Here’s the important part: the first 100 people who join the dedicated PopUp Bagels Group on BFF can snag a complimentary three-pack of bagels and schmear to share; creators Caleb Thill, Simi Paul and Komal Nambiar will host group meetups designed to make the whole meeting-new-people thing a little less awkward; and there will also be complimentary coffee and matcha in custom BFF cans, plus music, giveaways and BFF merch.
The collaboration comes as Bumble BFF says New Yorkers are increasingly interested in taking their online friendships offline: events created on BFF in New York jumped 55 percent between April and June 2026, according to the company. (That was the biggest increase of any city.) And a recent BFF study also found that 71-percent of Gen Z women surveyed said structured group settings, like dinners, classes and events, make meeting people easier.
So, yes, you could spend another Saturday morning standing in a bagel line silently scrolling through your phone. Or you could leave with breakfast and somebody to text about getting drinks next weekend. Finding either for free feels like a pretty solid win.
