Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday this year, making for the ultimate taco Tuesday.

The residents of Mexico don't necessarily celebrate Cinco de Mayo the way we do on this side of the Atlantic, but, for New Yorkers, there is always a good reason to honor the culture's rich food and community spirit. To that intent, here are six ways to honor the day in NYC this year, from rooftop parties to margarita crawls.

For bogo tacos

Can you really just have one taco? Mixteca doesn’t think so. The agave bar founded by Please Don’t Tell veterans Jeff Bell and Victor Lopez is delivering all-day specials starting with $10 cocktails. And when you get hungry, you can eat bogo tacos from their sister restaurant, Tacos 1986, also housed within the same residence.

For a feast for the crew

Looking to feed the crew this Cinco de Mayo? Look no further than Tacos Fonda at Time Out Market Union Square. Celebrated chef Roberto Santibañez is cooking up a sweet Cinco de Mayo pack for the holiday. The deal includes five tacos, fresh guacamole, chips and salsa, plus a Dos Hombres tequila margarita—all for $25. And with the weather looking mighty fine this Tuesday (fingers crossed for 77 degrees!), taking your platter to the outdoor terrace sounds like just the place to celebrate.

For rooftop fans in Brooklyn...

Time Out Market Dumbo’s yearly Cinco de Mayo Celebration is back this year! Once again, the 5th-floor rooftop is going all out this year with a live band and special margaritas, all within sight of the killer Manhattan skyline. Food? Yeah, of course we’ve got that too. Among our line-up of amazing vendors, Ivy Stark Mexology will be promoting a special Cinco de Mayo deal: tacos and a prickly pear drink, and the option to tack on a $2 shot at the bar. Even better? The party is free to attend.

...or Manhattan

As of April, The Yacht Club’s terrace is open for the season. One of their first outdoor celebrations of the year? Cinco de Mayo! On Tuesday, the massive, 20,000-square-foot restaurant is going in on the holiday, starting with flying in oysters from Bendito Mar Seafarm in Magdalena Bay, Baja California Sur. While you choose if you’d rather have those chargrilled or raw served with a jalapeno mignonette, you can sip on tasters of Casa Dragones or order up Mexican beers and margaritas. It all happens from 6-9pm and the party is free to attend.

For a street fiesta

One of Fidi’s most historic streets, Stone Street, is inviting all to a day party in the street. For the annual Stone Street Cinco de Mayo, the cobblestone street will be filled with mariachi bands, DJs and live performances. Local restaurants and bars that line the iconic strip will be serving food and drinks onsite. But if you get a bit of decision fatigue, we highly recommend popping over to Mexi for tacos and a sturdy mezcal and tequila list that runs 400 bottles deep.

For margarita lovers

The original La Esquina in downtown NYC is celebrating a huge milestone this year, ringing in its 21st year. And to kick off its legal drinking status, the Mexican restaurant is throwing a margarita crawl across all four of its locations. Guests can start at any location to pick up their Cinco de Mayo Passport. Each spot will have a different party and vibe, including taco specials at the midtown restaurant and an $18 two taco and margarita deal at the Moynihan Train Hall outpost. If you successfully hit all four, guests can win prizes that can include pitchers, tacos and branded merch.
