There are so many food holidays in the calendar year, it's hard to sift through what warrants a celebration and what’s a straight-up marketing ploy. National Bloody Mary Day (January 1)? Depending on how the night before went, why not? National Cheese Pizza Day (September 5)? Hard yes. Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night (August 8)? Wait, what?

But for National Burger Day (held annually on May 28), we kindly set our skepticism aside, especially since the day trails after the hottest dog and burger-filled time of the year, Memorial Day Weekend. But if this year you want something a little different between your hamburger buns, the nation's most versatile canned meat company has just the thing.

In celebration of National Burger Day, SPAM® is giving out free—yes, free—SPAM® burgers on Wednesday, May 28. To bring it to life, the iconic blue-and-yellow labeled canned company will be collaborating with the Lower East Side smash burger joint, Casa 13urger. The one-day-only burger pop-up will be doling out 1,000 burgers for free. There's no catch here, just SPAM®.

So, wait, what's on it? Using a crispy fried SPAM® patty as a base, the burger will have a topper of Hawaiian mac salad and a squirt of a tangy BBQ drizzle, served on a toasted potato roll. The restaurant will also receive the SPAM® treatment, decked out in branded goods and a photo wall to capture all the good times. True fans of the "Spiced Ham" can also get their hands on limited-edition merch, including "Lilo & Stitch" SPAM® cans, SPAM® burger packaging, stickers and more.

The one-day-only collab will be dishing up the free burgers beginning at noon until 5pm, or while supplies last. And if somehow none of this convinced you to get a canned meat burger, wellthere's always our list of best burgers to check out.
