If your idea of attending the U.S. Open involves taking the 7 train to Flushing and crushing a Honey Deuce in the stands, you may want to look away: The Mark Hotel has unveiled an absurdly extravagant way to do championship weekend this year—and it costs a cool $500,000.
The Upper East Side hotel’s new Mark Grand Slam Extravaganza is a four-night U.S. Open package for up to six guests, built around a stay in The Mark Penthouse and tickets to some of the tournament’s biggest matches. But the real bragging right? A private tennis lesson with John McEnroe himself. Yes, you can apparently pay half a million dollars to have one of tennis’s most famously opinionated legends assess your backhand.
The package includes a private session with McEnroe at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the academy and its work providing young players with coaching and development opportunities. Guests also get six premium tickets to both the men’s semifinals and men’s final at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with a private chauffeur and luxury vehicle taking care of transportation throughout the weekend.
RECOMMENDED: One of New York's most legendary ballrooms is being turned into a playable tennis court for one night only
Back in Manhattan, The Mark Penthouse is set across the hotel’s top two floors and comes with its own Technogym and a cold plunge on the terrace overlooking the city. (The hotel calls it the largest hotel penthouse in the U.S.) When you’re not watching tennis or getting personally coached by a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, the package includes bespoke dining from The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges and Caviar Kaspia at The Mark, plus cocktails on the penthouse terrace overlooking Central Park.
And because apparently even a $500,000 tennis weekend needs some time on the water, guests will also get a private sail aboard The Mark’s 70-foot Herreshoff sailboat. The charter departs from Chelsea Piers and cruises through New York Harbor and past the Statue of Liberty, with food from Jean-Georges or Caviar Kaspia and, naturally, ample Champagne.
Is it wildly over-the-top? Absolutely. But if you’ve ever wanted to watch the U.S. Open finals, sleep in one of New York’s most extravagant hotel suites and have John McEnroe tell you what’s wrong with your serve, your very specific dream vacation has arrived.
