The Mark on the Upper East Side was just voted one of the best hotels in the world

It's the only NYC property to earn a spot on the coveted list.

New York knows it’s fabulous but, sometimes, it’s nice when the rest of the planet agrees.

The Mark has officially been named one of the World’s 50 Best Hotels for 2025, landing at number 43 on the prestigious global ranking revealed in London. Even splashier: It’s the only New York City property to make the cut and one of just two in the entire United States (Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles is the second one). Not too shabby for a grand dame on the Upper East Side.

“It is an extraordinary honor to represent New York and the United States as the only hotel in New York, and one of only two in the country, named among the World's 50 Best Hotels,” said Elon Kenchington, the hotel’s general manager, in an official statement. “It's a reflection of our team's commitment to crafting a preeminent New York City experience for our guests and this accolade not only honors the people who bring the hotel to life every day, but also the artists, designers and guests who inspire us. Most importantly, it recognizes the thoughtfulness and dedication of a community that makes The Mark not just a hotel, but a place where experiences and memories are created.”

The Mark isn’t new to high praise, but this award puts it in rarefied global company alongside hotels in Hong Kong, Lake Como, Marrakech and Sydney. Rosewood Hong Kong took the top spot this year, with just a half-dozen North American hotels appearing anywhere in the ranking.

So what sets The Mark apart from the pack? Start with its location: a 1927 landmark building steps from Central Park and an easy saunter to the Met, the Guggenheim and basically every Upper East Side fantasy you’ve ever had. Inside, things lean sumptuous but never stuffy. Think glossy marble, sly pops of signature orange and a mood that says “quiet power” more than “flashbulbs at checkout” (though you’ll spot celebrities, too).

Guests can charter The Mark’s private sailboat, book after-hours access to the Met, zip around in custom pedicabs and indulge in Jean-Georges dining that involves everything from caviar cravings to Haute Dog Cart hot-dog runs. Add a Frédéric Fekkai salon and the largest hotel penthouse in North America and you’ve basically built billionaire cosplay heaven.

New York has no shortage of standout stays, but getting singled out at a global ceremony packed with luxury insiders? That’s a flex even this city can appreciate.
