New Yorkers don't need to be told that they live in one of the culinary capitals of the world, but it's always nice when the public at large recognizes as much.
Just a few weeks after our own Una Pizza Napoletana was named the second best pizzeria in the world by 50 Top Pizza, Yelp voted three NYC taco shops as the best in the nation in its top 100 ranking of similar eateries in the United States.
The nominated destinations includes Los Tacos No. 1, which boasts five locations in Manhattan alone, at number 14 on the list. The no-frills Cafe Nube in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood lands at number 33 followed by popular food truck Birria-Landia in Williamsburg at position 59.
When expanding our scope to include New York state as a whole, our area lays claim to two more eateries on the ranking: Craft Taqueria in New City, which is in upstate New York, and El Cuñao Deli, in Nyack, about an hour-long train ride from Manhattan.
The top spot went to Aroma Litan American Cocina, a tiny taqueria of sorts in Henderson, Nevada.
To come up with its ranking, Yelp "looked at cities with the highest amount of consumer searches for tacos," reads the official study. That is all to say: New Yorkers look up "tacos" a whole lot—and can you blame us? The food is delicious, plentiful in all neighborhoods and extremely versatile. Craving vegan tacos? Just about any taqueria serves them! Chicken options, beef-heavy tacos and fish-based choices abound as well!
As National Taco Day approaches (mark your calendars for October 4), we have one directive for you: go enjoy the best tacos in NYC for breakfast, lunch and dinner—somehow, we just can't ever get enough.
