Besides veggie balls, Ikea’s latest plant-based menu has meat-free gyoza and vegan nuggets

We do like gyoza and nuggets... but how does a plant-based rendition fare?

Fact: Ikea meatballs are the highlight of every furniture shopping spree. Trashy? Perhaps, but we don’t really care when it comes served with a scoop of buttered potato mash and gravy, a dollop of lingonberry jam, and the very crux of it all: a dozen or so Swedish meatballs. But ever since Ikea introduced their vegetable balls, otherwise known as the Plant Ball (from $8), that’s made from a mishmash goodness of yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onions, and apples, we’ve been more open to a plant-based diet

Since, they’ve recently introduced a new plant-based menu that includes meat-free gyoza, vegan nuggets, and curry puffs. The gyoza is available from May 15 to 20 for dine-in, while stocks last, and is supposed to be healthier than the original gyoza recipe – with 54 percent more protein and 22 percent less fat. It might have a taste that strongly resembles mushrooms, but it still retains its crispy edges.

We can also look forward to plant-based nuggets and meatless curry puffs soon, with Ikea suggesting that they’ll be available in the coming months.
