Nightlife establishments have come under some of the toughest circuit breaker restrictions, forced to close indefinitely since Phase 2 rolled around. Since then, we've seen signs of life from nightclubs like Zouk and Cherry Discotheque – but it was hard not to wonder about other players in the scene.

Fans of Headquarters by The Council can finally breathe easy. After days of teasing on social media, the gritty underground music venue confirmed its reopening on December 2 with a snack bar concept at their second-floor space, Upstairs

The groundbreaking club that brought us the likes of Peggy Gou, Eric Duncan and Kaiser Souzai will be bringing back its signature laid-back, no-frills vibes and the same tasteful mix of techno, house and disco that you'd be hard-pressed to find at other more commercial establishments.

A welcome addition is the new snack menu, featuring hearty bites from Argentinian Gourmet BBQ and Sidecar Handcrafted. The Council has also worked with sparkling Yerba mate tea label Mate Mate to bring a selection of cocktails to complement a full rotation of natural wines and sakes.

Upstairs will be open from the late afternoon to 10.30pm on Wednesday to Saturday – perfect for lazy afternoon snacks or after-work drinks. The usual social distancing measures apply, meaning groups of no larger than five and masks on until foods and drinks are on the table. We expect punters to be clamouring for seats though, so hurry up and make your reservations via Whatsapp at 9643 0661.
