This five-star harbourside show is coming back

Opera Australia have launched their 2017 season – and we’re excited that two of Time Out Sydney’s five-star favourites from 2013 are returning in 2017: Gale Edwards’ spectacular harbourside production of Carmen (part of the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour series, aka HOSH) is taking up prime harbourside position from March 24; and Sydney’s favourite Shakespearean actor/director, John Bell, is bringing his high-drama production of Tosca back to the Opera House from February.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour has become an institution in five years, and we've written at length about its winning formula: take one opera with a catchy score and at least one hit aria; add international stars, a dance scene, a fireworks scene, and one giant stage prop. Shake in harbourside setting, serve alongside themed catering.

Well sometimes it works better than other times, but this 2013 production was a real winner.
