Time Out says

If I was going to suggest a hotel to someone from out of town who was keen to have a very Sydney experience, I’d tell them to stay at the new InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach. Our city has a lovely, long coastline with some of the world’s best beaches, yet there aren’t many big hotels directly across the road from beaches here. And apart from being a beautiful shoreline, Coogee is a fun area with loads of great restaurants and nightlife.

From the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, you’re not only footsteps from the beach, but you’ll likely be able to see it from your room – and it’s a pretty iconic Sydney view, from my POV. Book now over here.

What are the rooms like at the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach?

Waking up opposite one of Sydney's most iconic beaches reminds me I’m on holiday before I've even left the bed. The hotel opened in late 2025 after a multi-million-dollar redesign of the previous digs by Woods Bagot, and the interiors lean into the neighbourhood’s coastal setting with a calm, contemporary feel inspired by Coogee's light and landscape. The design strikes that sweet spot between polished luxury and relaxed beachside living, which suits the area perfectly.

The rooms aren’t huge, but mine has a wrap-around balcony that adds to the feeling of space, and everything I need inside: decent wardrobe space, a coffee machine, filtered water on each floor, a flatscreen TV, stocked mini bar, desk, free WIFI, and a really comfortable bed with lovely linen.

Where to eat and drink at the InterContinental Coogee

The hotel’s all-day dining hub is Shutters Restaurant & Bar, which offers modern Australian-style dishes like seafood and steak. That’s also where guests will find the buffet breakfast, which offers all the good stuff (fruit, cereals, pastries, deli meats, hot food, an omelette station, Pepe Saya butter sachets, and even a station to make your own fresh juice). It’s a nice place to start the day, looking out at Coogee Beach through the shutters.

The poolside dining offering means you don't have to stray far from the sun lounge when hunger strikes, especially in the warmer months.

If eligible, you can visit Club InterContinental from 5-7pm each day for complimentary cocktails and canapés in a lovely lounge room-style setting. They say “canapés”, but we find this a pretty generous food offering.

If that’s not enough to satisfy your appetite, there’s also the popular Rick Stein at Coogee Beach downstairs. And loads of great restaurant and nightlife options throughout Coogee and nearby suburbs.

What facilities does the InterContinental Coogee have?

The centrepiece of the hotel is the new ocean-facing infinity pool, which is heated, and surrounded by cabanas, sun lounges and shaded seating overlooking Coogee Beach.

If you want to get active, there are pickleball courts – a unique addition for a Sydney hotel – plus a 24-hour fitness studio.

The biggest new arrival, though, is Èliva Spa. Rather than a traditional hotel spa, it's designed as a full wellness destination built around the themes of rest, recovery and invigoration. Fun fact: Prince Harry was the very first guest to experience this new spa.

I book in for a 60-minute Illuminating facial to kick off my stay, which is pure bliss. During my treatment, as the therapist works her magic on me, I enter that serene state where I don’t really know if I’m asleep or awake. I finish with glowing skin and a zen mood – I virtually float into Club InterContinental for cocktail hour.

The next morning, my husband and I visit the spa together for a 60-minute session. We move between infrared and salt saunas and a steam room (inside), and then warm magnesium mineral pools and a cold plunge (outside). The recovery lounge includes things like PEMF infrared masks, LED facial masks, compression boots and vitamin C-infused showers. If you choose to book in for a massage, you get to help craft your own botanical blend massage oil. It’s all pretty special.

What’s the area like around the InterContinental Coogee?

One of the best things about staying in Coogee is that it’s a destination in its own right. You can wander straight across the road for a swim, join the famous walking track to Bondi, snorkel at Gordons Bay's underwater nature trail, or take a dip at Wylie's Bath.

As the sun goes down, Coogee shifts into a happening nightlife village with plenty of restaurants, bars and pubs within walking distance, meaning I can spend an entire weekend here without needing a car.

So, if you want the version of Sydney that most people picture when they book a trip to come here – morning swims, ocean views, long coastal walks, lazy time by the pool and arvos in a sunny beer garden – InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach delivers exactly that. It combines the comforts of a luxury hotel with one of the city's best beachside locations, making it an obvious recco for both out-of-towners as well as Sydneysiders wanting a staycation.
