There's a reason flowers and desserts are the go-to options for communicating love. This Valentine's Day, there's no need to choose between the two, with Black Star Pastry bringing back its famous rose-infused strawberry-watermelon cake in a picture-perfect heart shape in time for this year's love-fest.

For the uninitiated, the strawberry-watermelon cake is a multi-layered cake, made of almond dacquoise sandwiched between rows of rose-scented cream and watermelon, and topped with strawberries, slivered pistachios and fragrant, dried Iranian rose petals. The Valentine's Day version is the confection you know and love – the same one that sparked queues down Australia Street from its original bakery in Newtown – just with added Instagrammability. Each heart-shaped creation is $40.

The cake is available to purchase between Friday, February 12 and Sunday, February 14 from all of BSP's Sydney and Melbourne stores. You'll need to pre-order online with at least 48 hours notice.
