There’s a lot of change afoot for Sydney on the transport front: with the huge new international airport now open at Western Sydney, and the extension of the Sydney Metro finally set to welcome passengers from this Friday. And now, we’ve got more updates: with a new train timetable rolling out across several lines from Sunday, November 15, 2026.

Transport for NSW says the changes aim to deliver more frequent services, reduce waiting times and improve reliability, with pretty significant updates planned for the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line, South Coast Line and T8 Airport and South West Line. Here’s what you need to know.

The T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line will see more frequent trains during peak periods, on weekends and late at night. The South Coast Line will also receive a boost, with trains running every 15 minutes during peak periods and every 30 minutes off-peak between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD. Additional local services between Wollongong and Thirroul are also planned.

Over on the airport line, the T8 Airport and South Line will be renamed the T8 SYD Airport and South West Line, with all services travelling through the Airport Tunnel. This will mean more services for airport tunnel stations during the morning and afternoon peaks.

There are changes for Inner West commuters, too. St Peters and Erskineville stations will move to the T4 line, providing direct connections to stations including Martin Place and Bondi Junction. The move will also give passengers travelling between the Eastern Suburbs and Inner West more options without needing a lengthy interchange at Central or Redfern.

The T2 Leppington and Inner West Line will also see improved local connections and better access to Parramatta outside peak periods.

Importantly, journey times, departure platforms and train timetables will change across several lines, so don't assume your usual train will run at its regular time or stop at the same stations.

The Transport for NSW Trip Planner will be updated with the new timetable from Sunday, November 1. You can learn more and plan your trip over here.
