The highlight of the Christmas holiday lies without question in sharing a meal with your loved ones, exchanging stories and laughter during one of the few opportunities each year we all get to spend quality time together during our busy lives.

This year, devote your attention to friends and family without the burden of rushing around to cook and prepare the holiday meal. These Sydney venues are all offering Christmas Day feasts, encompassing both lunch and dinner, that'll take the stress out of the day with menus that feature both traditional Christmas dishes and summery Australian favourites.

European traditions are given a modern Australian touch on 12-Micron’s Christmas menu. For $155, enjoy a shared rotisserie-style lunch designed by executive chef Justin Wise that includes dishes such as roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dressed in pepperberry gravy, salmon cured in Four Pillars Gin, and waldorf and munthari salad with lemon myrtle. The three-course feast is available for two seatings, at noon and 2.30pm. Each begins with a glass of Champagne on arrival and ends with seasonal desserts – there’s your choice of a peach and quandong trifle or Christmas pudding with cherry and rosella.

Nothing says Christmas in Australia like a family seafood feast by the water. At Kingsley’s in Woolloomooloo they’re celebrating the day with a $179 three-course menu that combines traditions from both hemispheres (with a kids menu on offer for $45). The meal begins with a hot and cold platter of ocean prawns, king crab, chilli squid, soft shell crab and oysters both natural and kilpatrick-style before mains, where you can stick to the theme with Tasmanian ocean trout served with charred asparagus, tomato confit, basil and kipfler potato, or veer towards tradition with roast turkey in cranberry sauce. End the meal on a sweet note with chocolate and cherry pavlova, although you might find yourself stealing nibbles of your neighbours creamy brie de meaux.

Share a laid-back Christmas meal at the newly refurbished Bungalow 8 on King St Wharf. They'll be open for lunch, serving an à la carte menu packed with fresh seafood that pairs well with the venue’s harbourside setting and our holiday season climate. Start with a more traditional pork and foie gras terrine or charcuterie with peppered figs before passing around a share platter of mud crab, scallops, oysters, prawns, salmon, bugs and squid. Other seafood options include refreshing cold snapper salad with coconut, lime, coriander and chilli dressing and seared mahi mahi with charred cauliflower and fennel salad, although if you just want to plough into a chicken parmi and chips this Christmas, you can do that too.
