Time Out says

For three whole days, the Rocks is turning into a burger haven

To celebrate International Burger Day this year, 15 venues across the Rocks will be dishing up some wacky and wonderful burger creations, including an unholy deep fried cheeseburger over the weekend of May 28-30.

There will be a selection of mind-boggling burger creations including one that replaces buns with fried chicken, another that uses doughnuts, a spaghetti and meatball burger, as well a strawberry scone sandwich.

The Dub (prounounced inexplicably with a W, rather than a D) from the Butter Sydney pop-up in the Rocks Square will feature two fried chicken thighs instead of buns with mashed potato, ramen gravy, fries, bacon strips, and maple syrup.

Terrace by Tayim is bringing the best from the Middle East this International Burger Day with a lamb kofta burger with hummus, zhoug, shifka, tomato, onions and amba. Pony Dining has taken to the sea and is serving up a crumbed fish fillet with woodfired jalapeno aioli with a side of dill pickles.

But of all the burgers on offer this year, surely the most outrageous has to be the Mercantile Hotel's "classic" cheeseburger – with a deep-fried twist. The burger experts at the venue will be preparing a beer-battered beef burger patty topped with smokey Jameson sauce, honey mustard mayonnaise, smashed avo, tomato and spanish onions, rounded out with mozzarella. No one asked for this madness, yet here we are.
