Bell Shakespeare

What's on stage in 2017 for Australia's most prestigious purveyor of Shakespeare and the classics?

Kate Mulvany will play Richard 3

Australia’s most prestigious Shakespearean company is going dark in 2017, presenting Richard 3, starring Kate Mulvany as the Machiavellian monarch, and The Merchant of Venice, starring three-time Helpmann Award Winner Mitchell Butel as Shylock. It's a smaller than usual program for the company, which presented three shows in 2016.

Founded by actor and director John Bell in 1990, Bell Shakespeare made its reputation with productions of Shakespeare that looked and sounded contemporary (though in 2016, artistic director Peter Evans broke with tradition a little to present a period-appropriate production of Romeo and Juliet).

Season packages for Bell Shakespeare are on sale now, or you can purchase single tickets.

Coming up:

Richard 3

In their third collaboration as theatremakers (following Julius Caesar and Macbeth), Bell Shakespeare director Peter Evans and writer, actress and dramaturg Kate Mulvany will re-cast Shakespeare's bloody drama through a woman's eye.
