Time Out says

Patricia Cornelius and the creators of ‘Shit’ bring a new searing, expletive-laden show to the Sydney Opera House

This is a play about the runts of the world – the lesser, the unwanted, the weak, those without clout, the insignificant.

Playwright Patricia Cornelius has garnered an adoring fanbase for her searing, unforgiving scripts that turn the spotlight onto the kind of people your average theatregoer would cross the street to avoid. She has a particular talent for turning flat, realistic, expletive-laden speech into a kind of heightened street verse.

Cornelius joins forces again with Susie Dee and Nicci Wilks, the co-creators of the critically acclaimed Shit (Sydney Festival), to bring Runt to the Sydney Opera House for a limited season. This bold theatrical work follows one small woman’s attempt to take back power, to lead the oppressed, to rise up and fight for equality in this gritty and unrelenting world. In a culture that’s dismissive at best (and hostile at worst) towards the underdog, the idea of the survival of the runt has great resonance.

This powerful, gritty one-hour show comes to the stage care of UnWrapped, a bi-annual season from the Opera House that provides a platform for independent Australian artists and small-to-medium companies to showcase new, risk taking work spanning across dance, music, live art and theatre.

Runt plays from Thursday May 12 to Saturday May 14. Grab your tickets here.
