While we countdown the days until Vivid in August, another outdoor festival is lighting up after dark. Artists from UNSW Art and Design will be putting on a spectacular weekend exhibition in Randwick Environment Park. This jazzy pop-up gallery is best viewed after dark, with all the sculpture works on the 1.5km loop through the park being illuminated by renewable energy sources.
In addition to the artworks, young talent from the uni’s arts and media department will be organising film screenings on rotation each night in the park’s auditorium. They’ll be showing their short films and animated creations which tackle subjects of sustainability and ecological issues.
Once you’ve made a lap or two around the glowing art installations, you’ll have earned a little down time. Spend it stargazing from a bean bag while you enjoy dinner in the park served up by a host of local food trucks – there's Brazilian barbecue from Barbicrew, organic vegan eats from Algae Fine Food, and schnittys from Wholly Schnitt. Gelato Messina's retro gelato van will be pulling up for dessert, and Sydney craft gin distillers Archie Rose are pouring drinks at the bar.
The free biannual event runs over three nights from Friday May 14 to Sunday May 16. The exhibition opens from 6pm and the food trucks and bar will be trading from 5-9pm.
