Home to the incredibly moreish pierogi, the world’s biggest castle and Europe’s oldest forest, Poland is rich in culture and traditional dance, with its origins dating back centuries.
Those familiar with Polish folkloric dance will be thrilled to know the world’s largest touring Polish arts festival, PolArt, returns to Sydney for the first time since 2003 from December 27 to January 6, 2023.
Running over 11 days, the festival features dance performances, live music concerts, art exhibitions, workshops and more. See works by sculptor Barbara Licha, whose work has been showcased in Sculpture by the Sea; classical pianist Christopher Malek; author of children's book series Pucio, Marta Galewska-Kustra; as well as over 700 performers from 20 dance and theatre companies from around Australia and NZ.
Speaking of dance, there will be three concerts held including the festival headline event at Darling Harbour’s ICC, The Grand Tour (Tue, Jan 3), which will showcase a spectacular performance with more than 75 people on stage at the one time, as well as Finding Love (Wed, Dec 28) and A New Rhythm Emerges (Fri, Dec 30).
In addition, three music concerts will take place in the CBD including Polish pop, international classical and Polish baroque; and bring along the kids to a family day called YouthFest (Thu, Dec 29) which will be on at Sydney Town Hall. Plus, PolArt is going all out for New Year’s Eve, hosting epic Polish party Sparkling Sylwester at the Roundhouse, complete with a DJ playing Polish disco polo.
The Grand Tour of Poland tickets are from $80, with discounts for seniors and children. Other event prices vary.
