Whether you are an avid golfer looking to squeeze in a round with a client, joining a group tour of Thailand’s fabled courses, or simply ticking off a global bucket list of the world’s greatest fairways, this list is for you. You may notice that many of our selections are private members’ clubs, but do not let that deter you; these venues offer serious bragging rights. While we have deliberately omitted a few exclusive clubs where the booking ordeal might detract from the fun, the right connection – or a savvy tour operator – can get you onto the most prestigious grass in Asia. Need clubs? Again, that can be arranged.

Most of our top 10 sit on the city's outskirts, but a modern network of tollways makes them easily accessible within an hour of the centre. With over 45 courses in greater Bangkok, the capital is a legitimate multi-venue vacation destination in its own right.

We have ranked our favourites from 1 to 10 based on conditioning, service, and ‘wow’ factor, including our pick for the signature hole at each. Some of the courses we have chosen are pricey compared to others in the kingdom but others are surprisingly less so given the quality on offer.

What is it?: On the northeast outskirts of Bangkok, Alpine Golf & Sports Club is one of Thailand’s most challenging golf courses. This Ron M. Garl-designed 18-hole championship course is a private, members-only club but it may be possible to play as a guest if you book through a local golf tour operator. It offers an elite golfing experience with immaculate course conditions and a recently upgraded clubhouse that exudes the atmosphere of a premium golfing destination. The facilities are top-tier, including spacious locker rooms, a well-stocked pro shop and excellent dining options with both Thai and international menus.

Why we love it: Alpine’s 18-hole championship course was once flat paddy fields reshaped 30 years ago into a rolling, undulating landscape, visually stunning and technically demanding; it requires precision, strategy and adaptability from golfers of all levels. The fairways are lush and meticulously maintained, while the greens are pro-tournament fast and true, a test for even the most confident of putters. The rough is demanding, making recovery shots a real challenge. Elevation changes – rare for courses in the Bangkok area – add an extra layer of complexity, particularly on approach shots. Practice facilities are excellent, featuring a driving range, short game area and putting greens that mirror the speed and condition of the course.

Signature hole: The standout is the par-5 7th hole, which tempts long hitters to go for the green in two but punishes misjudged shots with water hazards and tricky bunkers.

Time Out tip: The caddies here are exceptional with many having more than 10 years of service, and capable of offering considered advice on club selection, green reading and course strategy. Ask your tour operator to pre-book one of the top caddies – you will pay a little extra, but the expertise on offer could save you more than a couple of shots.

What is it?: Amata Spring Country Club, located about an hour’s drive from Bangkok, is widely regarded as one of Asia’s premier golf destinations. This exclusive, members-only course offers a blend of immaculate design, challenging play and world-class amenities that make it a standout in Asia. The course, opened in 2005 and conceptualised by Schmidt-Curley Design, is a par-72 layout that stretches over a recently upgraded 7,450 yards from the championship tees. It is nestled close to the Amata industrial estate in Chonburi with a proximity to the Gulf of Thailand that allows favourable sea breezes most of the year.

Why we love it: After struggling for the past few years, the conditioning of the course is now back to being nothing short of world-class. Fairways are carpet-like, the rough is tough but consistent and the greens roll at tournament speeds. Amata Spring has recently hosted prestigious events such as the Thailand Golf Championship, the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, and previously the Royal Trophy and the first Honda LPGA tournament. Its practice facilities may be the best in Thailand and do not be surprised to see world-ranked Thai golfers hitting next to you in your pre-match warm up on the range.

Signature hole: The most iconic feature of Amata Spring is its 17th hole – a floating island green that has recently been completely re-built (March 2026). Players are ferried by boat to the green, adding a unique and memorable twist to the round.

Time Out tip: Getting to and from the course from Bangkok can take as long as 90 minutes. So book one of the well-appointed 3-bedroom course-side residences for the night and play afternoon and the following morning. This allows dinner at the on-premises Dicciotto Italian restaurant with a great menu and a fine wine list.

What is it?: The Thai Country Club, located just outside Bangkok off the Bangna Trat highway and designed by Denis Griffiths, was opened in 1996 as a members-only club. Guests can now play at certain times during the week, either arranged through a hotel concierge or via a golf tour operator. The clubhouse amenities and services, in addition to a well-maintained course, are what sets it above the rest. It has hosted numerous prestigious international tournaments and a plaque on the par 4 10th hole proudly recalls the 1997 Asia Honda classic when Tiger Woods drove the green on his way to a 10-stroke win.

Why we love it: Thai Country Club is relatively flat but course maintenance is perhaps the best in the kingdom and greens are a pleasure to put on. The layout offers a fair challenge to golfers of all levels and professional on-course management ensures that, even at peak time, play flows at a decent pace. Service from bag drop to pro shop and locker rooms to restaurants is top notch and the drinks huts are well stocked while the restaurant is one of the best among the kingdom’s golf courses.

Signature hole: Hole 6 is a 227-yard par 3 from the tips and 136 yards from the reds. Typically, into the wind with water along the right side of the fairway and in front of the green, and out of bounds to the left. A high fade is required for right-handers if you want to hold this green.

Time Out tip: Build time into your visit to enjoy some of the best golfing hospitality in the Bangkok vicinity. Aim to arrive 90 minutes before tee time or stay 90 minutes after, or better still: both.

What is it?: Siam Country Club group, famed for its four great courses near Pattaya, opened this near-Bangkok course in 2022. Designed by Toby Cobb it offers wide fairways, large undulating greens and a breeze, most days, from the nearby gulf of Thailand. These people know how to manage a golf course so expect, as a guest, to be well treated from start to finish. It’s typically just a 30-minute drive from the centre of Bangkok, provided you avoid weekday rush hours.

Why we love it?: The course is in great shape and no matter what time of day you play, this is one of the best policed courses for keeping rounds to four hours or less. As a golf challenge, the course is evolving as the strategically placed trees and shrub areas bed in and grow. Play it now and then play it again in three years and it may feel like quite a different challenge.

Signature hole: Undoubtedly the 14th which is a dog leg right par four with a lake carry to the green for anyone bold enough to have a go at reaching it in one. Bunkers have been added to the end of the driving fairway that add an extra element of doubt in the best way to play the hole. The green protected by bunkers slopes towards the lake giving a fair chance that a good shot will hold the green.

Time Out tip: For golfers on tour go with an early afternoon tee-off on weekdays you may never have to wait on a shot. The only drawback is that the practice facilities do not include a driving range.

What is it?: It is located within the 800-acre multi-generational lifestyle development called Reignwood Park, roughly 50 kilometres north-east of central Bangkok. The championship 18-hole course opened in late 2025 as an integral part of this self-contained luxury community that includes international schools, luxury residences, country club, shopping mall and much more. Reignwood is currently the owner of Wentworth Golf Club in West London.

Why we like it: There is a pristine nature to the golfing experience at Robinswood, from an opulent clubhouse to well-managed restaurant facilities and a fully functional practice area. It is not perhaps the most challenging of golf courses but what it lacks in difficulty is more than made up for in visual wow-factor as your round progresses. A par 3 nine-hole course adds to the attraction as does the excellent on-course management that ensures a decent pace of play at all times. As the trees and shrubbery bed in, Robinswood will only increase in popularity.

Signature hole: The par 5 18th is a monster from the back but that’s not what makes it stand out. The hole fades gradually to the left with water all the way to the hole, while a light rough along the bank gives some respite. Trees not yet fully developed will eventually force accurate straight play to the green which is well-protected by four imposing bunkers. As you play to the close of your round you cannot help but be impressed by the imposing majesty of the clubhouse.

Time Out tip: There is no hiding the fact that Robinswood can be a bit of an ordeal to reach and return from. A highway to the northeast will get you most of the way but the Lam Lukkha Road can get extremely choked up at busy times. Find a driver who knows the alternative back roads and you may save yourself 30 mins each way on the trip giving you more time to relax and enjoy the fantastic facilities.

What is it?: Opened in 2014, and designed by Pirapon Namatra of GolfEast, Nikanti is located about an hour to the west of Bangkok. It has claims to uniqueness in that it offers three six-hole loops each with two par 3’s, two par 4’s and two par 5’s. It also provides an all-in green fee that includes refreshments before the game, a meal after plus snacks on the course. The club house is modern and magnificent, with sauna and jacuzzi facilities and a cigar and drinks lounge.

Why we like it: The course is visually stunning and each 6-hole loop has a character of its own. Wide fairways and forgiving approach areas help get you in the groove. Tighter fairways, strategic bunkers and water hazards then come into play for holes 7-12 before a change in elevation and demanding greens that need precision in approach play for the final six loop. Thailand is famous for its knowledgeable caddies but few courses can offer better trained personnel than Nikanti.

Signature hole: The par 3 second hole is simply gorgeous. The green is tucked in behind a lake that runs along the right of the hole and an undulating fairway leads to a forgiving approach area for those playing safe. Three bunkers frame the back of the fairway and green with a variety of different challenges to get out from.

Time Out tip: If you are from out of town, hire a knowledgeable driver to get you there and back. Then, sit back and enjoy the journey which takes you through some lesser roads and towns before your grand entrance at the club. To get full-value out of the green fee, allow at least an hour either side of your game to enjoy the world-class facilities which have already been paid for in advance

What it is: Navatanee opened in 1973 and was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr., specifically to host the 23rd World Cup of Golf in 1975. It’s not long but it still carries that championship pedigree today. It is members-only on weekends but visitors can book weekday tee times. The design is strategic rather than punishing, rewarding consistency over brute force.

Why we like it: The location makes it easy to reach within 30 minutes from central Bangkok and its setting, within a high-end housing estate with private country club facilities, is hard to beat. The course design is a true masterpiece as every hole seems to offer a different challenge. This is also a chance to go low if you are playing at the top of your game as the course and the greens are not tricked out to compensate for any course shortfalls. Conditions are typically superlative and after 50 years the trees and birdlife are well established.

Signature hole: The par 4, 6th hole, is a monster. At close to 420 yards from the white tees, a full shot is needed to get close to the lake in front of the green and that still leaves a perfectly struck mid iron to make the green which is well protected by front bunkers. Undoubtedly one of the best golf holes in Bangkok.

Time Out tip: If you have the opportunity to play Navatanee, especially on a weekday when it’s open to guests, it’s well worth the effort. It’s a course that leaves you with the feeling that you’ve walked in the footsteps of golfing greats like Lou Graham and Johny Miller who saw the USA team to victory in the 1975 World Cup of Golf here.

  • Ayutthaya

What is it?: Royal Bang Pa-In Golf Club, designed by Schmidt-Curley Design, opened in 2017, is located in Ayutthaya province, just under an hour’s drive from Bangkok. It offers a serious golfing challenge set in a serene countryside setting. Green fees are high for a public course but the experience is that of a very exclusive country club.

Why we like it: The course is laid out over an expansive 100-hectare site. The par-72 championship course stretches over 7,200 yards but with multiple tee boxes catering fairly to all skill levels. Wide, beautifully mown fairways allow confidence off the tee, water hazards, well-placed bunkers and subtly contoured greens demand thoughtful shot-making. There is a rhythm to the course as the front nine allows you to relax into your game while the tempo is raised on the back nine with tighter approaches and a lot more water in play. The clubhouse facilities are housed in a modernist design exuding class, service is exemplary and the F&B offerings are first-class.

Signature hole: The long par 5 fifth hole on the east 9 is a true challenge. With water along the right and mature shrubs and trees on the left, the focus is staying on the ample fairway and avoiding a variety of bunkers. The green is at a dog-leg right angle and offers true reward/risk for those aiming to get on in two.

Time Out tip: Schedule a lunchtime start to catch the afternoon breeze – it’ll test your club selection, but the cooling effect is worth it. Post-round, grab a cocktail at the clubhouse to soak in the sunset; by the time you finish, the peak-hour rush back into town should have settled.

What is it?: Re-modelled by Gil Hanse from the old Kiartithanee course and a 30-minute drive along the highway east of Bangkok, this par 71 course bills itself as one of the few links courses close to the city. It pays homage to the famed Lido public golf course in Long Island New York that once was ranked in the top 100 courses, while capturing the spirit of some of the most iconic holes in the world. Opened late 2021 it is a private member facility available to Ban Rakat Club members and guests.

Why we like it: The golf course exudes a natural roughness not typically found in the manicured layouts of other highly rated Thai golf Courses. It features wide undulating fairways, strong breezes changing direction at different times of the year and a classic 9-holes out and 9-holes in layout. Deep bunkers and scrubland with rambling gorse bush plus expansive water and elevated views across the course from various holes make for a truly unique experience in the Bangkok vicinity. A modern stylish club house and excellent practice facilities complete the package.

Signature hole: Each hole is named, and none more so aptly than the par 5 17th Long. A long carry is needed to clear the scrubland and then second shots need to stay left of a very long fairway bunker on the right, shared with the 18th hole, as the course curves to the right before you reach the green. Perhaps more than any other hole this encapsulates the philosophy of some of the great traditional links courses of Scotland and Ireland.

Time Out tip: Find or book a caddy that has been with the club since opening. Links golf benefits from having a knowledgeable partner on the bag. Not just helping with reads on the green but equally with club selection and pointing out various troubles/blind spots that you might not be aware of from the tee. Caddies at Ballyshere are typically well-trained.

What is it?: Royal Gems Golf City, located about 45 mins drive north from central Bangkok, blends world-class design with a playful twist. This Ron Garl course offers two distinct nines: the front nine recreates famous holes from legendary courses around the world, while the back pays homage to Augusta National’s revered back nine. The clubhouse is spacious with panoramic views of the course. Locker rooms are spotless, and the pro shop is well-stocked with quality gear and apparel.

Why we love it: The front nine is a tour of some of the greatest golf holes in the world. You’ll find yourself teeing off on replicas from St Andrews, Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass, among others. The famous island green of Sawgrass’ 17th hole is recreated with impressive accuracy, offering the same nerve-tingling shot over water. The back nine is modelled after Augusta National’s back nine, capturing the challenge of the Masters’ most memorable moments. The par-3 12th, with its narrow green guarded by Rae’s Creek, demands precision, while the par-5 13th tempts longer hitters to go for the green in two. Landscaping with flowering plants, manicured bunkers and water features do a pretty decent job of making you think you are playing the Masters.

Signature hole: As the course comprises 18 signature holes this is a tough one. But how can it not be the par 3 12th hole replica at Augusta. Statistics show only 50 peer cent, or so, of golfers make the green at Augusta and the same goes for Royal Gems City. A high fade is needed to hold the green and a par here really is worth a high five.

Time out tip: Make a day of it. The restaurant serves a mix of Thai and international cuisine, perfect for a post-round meal. The driving range and practice greens are well-maintained, so arrive early for a warm up before your tee time. Avoid weekends when it can get over-crowded.
