The citywide design festival returns with a slew of creative happenings

Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) is stepping into its 20th anniversary and to celebrate, they're going all out with its fourth edition of BODW CityProg, a citywide design activation programme that seeks to encourage a close relationship between creative and design units, businesses, and community organisations. Taking on the theme of ‘20s: Reflect ‧ Refresh ‧ Reset’ this year, there will be over 100 creative partners taking part to organise more than 200 events around the city throughout November to December. These include Anchor Site Festivals, a collaboration between different creative units to bring unique and fun design experiences; Satellite Events, a series of workshops, exhibitions, and talks across the city; and the return of Design City Hunt, which offers the public a chance to win fabulous prizes while supporting local brands in the neighbourhood. P+PM | People & Placemaking

P+PM | People & Placemaking

Taking on the theme of placemaking, the P+PM project will take its participants on a journey to explore how district planning, venue design, and public space renovation can build and strengthen the connection between people and their locales. Through a series of activities, including an exhibition, a design and photography workshop, and a placemaking talk, participants will gain a fresh perspective on community values based on local planning, designs, and construction.

Creativity@K-Farm

Creativity@K-Farm

Working in close connection with K-Farm – an urban farm located at Belcher Bay harbourfront in Kennedy Town – the Creativity@K-Farm festival will connect with the community using design features, geographical elements, and community network. Kicking off the festival will be an engaging design seminar by K-Farm designer Vicky Chan. Then, a series of guided tours, workshops, as well as a Creative Market will follow for the public to learn more about the farm and discover the application of creative designs. Last but not least, the Design for K-Farm competition (open for public participation) will conclude the festival.

Memory Lane 1921-2021

Memory Lane 1921-2021

In celebration of HKDC’s 20th anniversary and the eighth anniversary of Thy Lane, the Memory Lane 1921-2021 festival looks into the cultural significance of typography and signages and the evolution of its art form. Turning Thy Lane into a thought-provoking design museum, the project invites the public to explore the works of young local designers and experienced craftsmen, while learning about the history and evolution of Hong Kong signboards from the past century.

Satellite Events
HKDC, Useless Studio

Satellite Events

Coinciding with the Anchor Site Festivals, various Satellite Events will also be held across the city. Not only will participants get to learn about designs and culture from different countries around the world, but they’ll also have the chance to discover works by local artists and get hands-on with crafting their very own masterpieces! Highlighted events include Swedish Winter 2021, where workshops, exhibitions, and other festive activities will help promote Swedish food and culture; What’s Next for Italian Design, a panel discussion on the Italian design industry with leading Italian architects and designers; Uplifting Life, a solo exhibition by local multimedia artist Agnes Pang; as well as a cold-processed soap-making workshop with Savon Workshop and a wheel throwing class with local ceramics studio Useless Studio. Design City Hunt

Put your boots to the ground and get exploring as the Design City Hunt returns! From November 23 to December 5, over 80 designated design spots across the city will be offering you a chance to bag some amazing prizes while supporting local businesses! The design spots are split into four themes – Let’s Go Design, Let’s Go HK, Let’s Go Green, and Let’s Go Chill – and will include places such as Lof10, A little something, Lane Eight, KC100 Art Space, Savon Workshop, Useless Studio and many more.

To take part in the hunt, simply make a purchase or join a design activity for free at any of the designated locations, and you will be given a special design card. Then, all you have to do is take a photo of the card, create an IG post or story and tag CityProg’s Instagram account @bodw.cityprog and the affiliated shops or event organisers, and you can claim your reward on BODW CityProg’s website. So, what are you waiting for? There are over 200 gifts up for grabs!
