City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) will present an exhilarating tango opera x contemporary dance x live music performance, Maria de Buenos Aires in May. Crossing dance and tango opera, the production tells the story of the heroine, Maria, with concepts that blur reality and fantasy, life and death, and destruction and redemption.
Co-produced by CCDC and Weiwuying, Maria de Buenos Aires is directed and choreographed by internationally renowned choreographer Helen Lai. She joins forces with dance artists, opera singers, musicians, and a narrator to perform the works of ‘King of Tango’ Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. Marking three decades since his passing this year, this performance is a tribute to one of the most celebrated international modern-day composers.
