1. Frontier x Josh Katz

Not quite ready to hang up your flip flops? We’ve teamed up with Frontier to throw the mother of all end-of-summer barbecues on the roof of Shoreditch’s Old Truman Brewery. Berber & Q’s Josh Katz will be manning the fire pits, there’s free craft lager and the views are a knock out. Get tickets here!

£10 Smoke & Spice on the Roof, 91 Brick Lane, E1 6QR. Thu Sep 7, 6pm-9pm.

2. Smoking Goat

If Tom Waits got really into Thai food and opened a restaurant, this is what it would look like. Equal parts hot sauce and vinyl, Smoking Goat puts a roadhouse spin on dishes such as point-end brisket and pork belly. The barrels outside are a fine place to perch with some wings as the sun sets on the summer.

7 Denmark St, WC2H 8LZ.

3. Model Market

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an open-air millennial hangout needs a grill. Or, in Model Market’s case, three of the little fellas. Take your pick from Argentine-style beef at Up in My Grill, Caribbean barbecue from Lewisham locals Mama’s Jerk and burgers from Mother Flipper.

196 Lewisham High St, SE13 6LS. Fri Sep 1 and Sat Sep 2.

4. MeatUp

Wandsworth, long the culinary Carlton to Clapham’s Will Smith, is home to a barbecue joint that’s actually worth bragging about. The menu majors on birds and beasts, and runs the gamut from a relatively modest herb-rubbed quarter chicken to an Adam Richman-esque short rib, burger, steak and seafood platter.

350 Old York Rd, SW18 1SS.

5. Barbie Grrrl

Not to be confused with the 1997 Aqua hit, this Shoreditch beer garden pop-up specialises in vegan seitan ‘ribs’ spiced with turmeric, sweet paprika and fennel that look and taste the part. We’re gutted it’s only around for a couple more days. What are you waiting for? Come on, Barbie – let’s go party (before we miss our chance).

Canvas Café, 42 Hanbury St, E1 5JL. Until Sun Sep 3.

6. BBQ Dreamz at Kerb

When you think ‘barbecue’, the Philippines probably don’t immediately come to mind – unless you’ve had the pleasure of hitting up BBQ Dreamz. A ‘backyard barbecue’ dropped into the middle of Kerb, it dishes up overflowing boxes of crispy pork belly. Prepare to get
very, very messy.

Various Kerb locations including London Bridge, King’s Cross and West India Quay. September dates TBC.

7. Temper Soho

Settle in with a fishbowl G&T at the bar and watch huge hunks of meat get the naked-flame treatment, before they’re slapped on to flatbreads and tacos. You’ll lose track of time and stumble out five hours later with salsa all over your chops. And you’ll be grateful.

25 Broadwick St, W1F 0DF.
