Bad news, folks: Walthamstow Winter Wonderland won’t be happening after all

Sorry Londoners. Christmas has been cancelled. Or at least, Walthamstow Winter Wonderland has. Earlier this month we announced that the new Christmas village was due to launch in Walthamstow Town Square on December 1, but the organisers have stated that the event will not be going ahead for 2018.

A statement on the WWW website reads:

’It is with deep regret and due to circumstances out of our control the winter wonderland concept with an ice rink and bar won’t be coming to Walthamstow this Christmas. In its place, we’ll still be running a German market with events and entertainment alongside our Walthamstow Sunday Social event every Sunday. Please stay tuned for more information on our German market. We are extremely disappointed we were not given the chance to run the event we promised to.’

So you’ll be able to visit a German market in E17, but no ice rink or Santa’s grotto. The ’Stow Christmas dream may be dead for now, but the organisers are hoping to make it a reality in 2019. In the meantime, you can substitute the festive lights with the XXX neon signs of God’s Own Junkyard

Ah well. There’s plenty of other wonderlands to visit in London this Christmas.

They may not be in Walthamstow, but there are 13 brilliant ice rinks to skate on.
