There are salads and there are salads. The first is all wilted leaves and a measly portion of chicken. The second is stuffed with grains, protein and enough toppings to justify the ten-quid-plus that’s left your bank account.

And we’re pleased to report that London is soon getting a new salad joint of the second kind. Popular Swedish food chain Holy Greens is opening its first London outpost at Cabot Square in Canary Wharf.

Holy Greens was founded by David Egonson and Nebo Pavicevic back in 2013 with a mantra of making fast food is ‘simple, fresh, and made with care’. The first restaurant opened on Nedre Långvinkelsgatan in the coastal city of Helsingborg.

Since then, Holy Greens has gone on to open a mega 30 restaurants across Sweden. The Swedish menu includes fresh salads stuffed with chicken, quinoa, hand-peeled shrimp, glass noodles and beetroot hummus, alongside hot bowls with black rice and coleslaw, light breakfast options and a children’s menu.

Cabots Square marks Holy Green’s first restaurant in the capital. While there’s no official opening date just yet, we do know that Holy Greens is planning several more openings across the Big Smoke and has begun recruiting staff.

Posh salads are undeniably having their moment in the capital. The Salad Project, which serves up customisable salads and protein bowls, recently opened its 15th outpost in London Bridge station beside Wasabi and Starbucks. Meanwhile, health-focused salad joint Atis has 16 stores across the capital, including its largest location to date in St James’s.

Chief executive Sabrina Jaeger said the London opening marks ‘an important step’ in Holy Greens’ international journey, adding its ‘ambition extends much further’ and they are ‘building for the long term’.
