The past few months have seen a bumper amount of new restaurants opening across the capital. Frankly, it’s been exhausting and nigh-on impossible to visit them all, so we’re grateful for this seasonal slow-down, meaning we can actually get out there and visit as many of the best new restaurants in London as possible.

There are still some pretty exciting things incoming this August, including a long-awaited comeback for one of 2025’s best pop-ups, Tasca, and new openings for some of London’s most-loved mini chains: Bancone, Superette and It’s Bagels.

1. The returning champ

Tasca at Project 44, Shoreditch

We loved last year’s wildly impressive Portuguese and Spanish-inspired pop-up Tasca and are chuffed to hear that head chef Josh Dallaway and sommelier Sinead Murdoch are back. They’ll be in the kitchen of Rivington Street cafe and wine bar Project 44 for the rest of summer, serving the likes of Cornish crab on requeijão cheese, Dexter beef tartare al pilpil, and mussel and chorizo rice.

Address: 44 Rivington Street, Shoreditch, EC2A 3QP

Opens: Every Wed-Sat evening from July 29

2. The big brutalist pasta project

Bancone, Bloomsbury

Pasta pro Bancone will be opening its sixth London location inside the newly spruced up Imperial hotel on Russell Square this summer. It’ll be a roomy one, with space for 140 diners as well as a 60-person terrace, where you can feast on spicy pork and nduja ragu, bucatini cacio e pepe and the house classic; silk handkerchiefs with walnut butter and confit egg yolk.

Address: 61–66 Russell Square, Bloomsbury, WC1B 5BB

Opens: August 17

3. Ice cream paradise

Whippies, Covent Garden

Ice cream season is far from over. Soho’s soft serve hole in the wall, Big Kid, is opening up an ice cream parlour offshoot over in Seven Dials Market. Whippies will dish out sundaes, slushies and more, with banana splits, Solero-style knickerbocker glories and a hot fudge cookies n’ cream supreme on the extremely extra menu of cold ones.

Address: Top Floor, Seven Dials Market, Earlham Street, Covent Garden, WC2H 9LX

Opens: August 8

4. The breakfast of champions

It’s Bagels, Hampstead

It’s Bagels has been giving Londoners a taste of the Big Apple since the chain opened its first site in Primrose Hill in 2023. Now the cult bagel shop, founded by New Yorker Dan Martensen, is about to open its fourth London location. The exact opening date for It’s Bagels Hampstead hasn’t been revealed yet, but the shop will be celebrating its opening with a back-to-school party for local families sometime in August where every child will receive a free bagel.

Address: 60 Hampstead High Street, NW3 1QH

Opens: August

5. The decadent deli

Superette, Highgate

Superette, the swanky shop which stocks all your fave fancy food brands (Natoora fruit and veg, Ortiz tinned fish, Whitebox canned cocktails, Dusty Knuckle and St John bread and bakes), has got a new store to join its Upper Street and Swain’s Lane outlets. Their third location is on Highgate High Street, and will also include an eat-in cafe counter for cheese and kimchi toasties and damn fine coffee.

Address: 43 Highgate High Street, N6 5JX

Opens: July 30

6. The central London slice shop

Carmy’s, Covent Garden

Islington pizza pushers Carmela’s have just launched a central London pizza parlour. The original is one of Time Out’s favourite places to eat pizza, so we have high hopes for Carmy’s. This joint will focus on snappy order-and-go service and offer just three kinds of individual slices (and whole pies): cheese, pepperoni and a rotating special.

Address: 1 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, WC2H 9DA

Opens: Now
