Islington’s Bistro Sablé is one of the newest additions to Time Out’s list of 20 best French restaurants in London. It opened last year in Canonbury and the team behind it are now about to launch Bistro Sablé 2:0, with a three-month takeover of gastropub The Princess of Shoreditch.
From October 1, Bistro Sablé will be in residence at the pub’s first floor dining room until the end of the year. The 32-cover pop-up will see a full makeover of the space, with the room splashed with vintage posters from French flea markets and a full menu of Parisian bistro classics, from rotisserie chicken to pâté en croûte. The ground floor of the pub will also see Sablé in residence, but with a shorter blackboard menu of small plates on offer.
Our recent review of the original Bistro Sablé praised the restaurant, calling it ‘concerned solely with presenting a menu of Gallic classics, served in an unpretentious yet perfectly charming environment.’
Time Out London editor Joe Mackertich added: ‘This isn’t one of those new-fangled ‘spots’ you’ve been hearing about, with monoverbal dish descriptions, disaffected stick-and-poked servers and NTS-approved soundbeds. It’s a French restaurant, of the kind you’d be delighted to encounter while holidaying in provincial Occitania.’
