The Christmas festivities are really starting to ramp up now. Across London, the Christmas trees are up, festive sandwiches are on the menu, lights are sparkling above our streets and markets are open for business. People will be out in droves over the coming weeks to sort out their Christmas shopping, and one neighbourhood is shutting down to vehicles for a day to make the experience a little bit easier.
From 11.30am until 7pm on December 6, Seven Dials will be entirely free of vehicles. The pedestrianisation is for ‘Festive Saturday’, which will see the streets of Seven Dials fill with gifting experiences, in-store activations, special discounts and complimentary treats.
If you stick around until 6pm, you’ll catch the community carol service led by the Some Voices choir, underneath the Seven Dials Sundial Pillar. There’ll be mulled wine, mince pies and song sheets on hand for passersby.
It’s part of Covent Garden’s wider ‘The Theatre of Christmas’ campaign, so why not combine it with a stroll to see the piazza’s 55ft Christmas tree, light installation and pop-ups? And around the corner Regent’s Street is also being transformed into a car-free destination for the day, with all sorts of festivities, pop-ups and special offers from 2pm until 9pm.
