With more and more London restaurants announcing ‘mixed group only’ policies (even Bunga Bunga’s got one now, would you believe), organising the all-important carb-loading part of a stag party has become quite the challenge. But don’t worry: help is at hand. Whether yours is a beer-fuelled brouhaha or suave steak supper, we’ve got the perfect stag do restaurant for you and your band of best mates.

Restaurants for stag dos

Bavarian Beerhouse
  • Restaurants
  • German
  • Clerkenwell

What’s the vibe?
Super-size beers, sausage platters and Dirndl-clad waitresses: welcome to das Stag heaven. Warm up with a stein or two of Bavarian lager, and be sure to wolf down a würst before you hit the Jägertrain, the six-pint stein or the vodka and sherbet Pornobrause. Ask nicely and this fun-loving German-themed beerhouse will even deck your main man out with a stag horn.

The Botanist, Broadgate Circle

What’s the vibe?
Did someone say bottomless?! The Botanist on Broadgate Circle takes London’s biggest lunch craze and whips it into a Saturday night special that’s perfect for stags. Two or three courses – think crispy squid with Sriracha mayo, Longhorn beefburger and sticky toffee pud – with two hours of unlimited wine, beer or fizz for £45/£50 a head. There’s a live band too.

Mac & Wild
  • Restaurants
  • British
  • Fitzrovia

What’s the vibe?
A real mancave of a restaurant, Mac & Wild is a stylish shrine to all things Scottish. On the last Saturday of every month, they run an afternoon whisky tasting that’s a great way to kick off a stag. The £35 package includes a cocktail, some canapés and a flight of four or five whiskies. Don’t miss the ‘venimoo’ (half venison, half beef) burger if you stay for dinner after.

  • Restaurants
  • Global
  • City of London

What’s the vibe?
Grown-up and suave. With James Bond interiors and fine wines by the glass, this one’s the choice for a more stylish stag. Private dining options start at £52 a head but our pick is the £62 Butcher’s Menu, showcasing favourites from M Grill – including the knocks-your-socks-off braised USDA prime short rib. Find the perfect wine match in the bar’s tasting area before dinner.

Meat Mission
  • Restaurants
  • Burgers
  • Hoxton

What’s the vibe?
You’ll be warmly welcomed in to worship at this temple to animal protein. The food – burgers, hot dogs, wings – is of the grab-it-and-growl variety, and there’s a two-drink limit imposed on some cocktails, including the fairly lethal House Grog. Take the Triple Chili Challenge – ten minutes to devour a green chili cheeseburger, chili dog and chili cheese fries – and eat for free.

Patty & Bun Redchurch Street

What’s the vibe?
Flowing beer, flirtatious staff and some of the best beef patties in town (the Ari Gold is an A-Grade cheeseburger), Patty & Bun ticks all the boxes for stag parties. The downstairs den at its boxfresh Shoreditch site allows you and your fellow stags to protein-load in private, with your own bar and DJ decks.

Pizza East Shoreditch
  • Restaurants
  • Italian
  • Shoreditch

What’s the vibe?
Urban. Concrete and steel frame a buzzy dining room full of long, shared tables. Groups of 13-18 can have a ‘pizza party’, with a generous amount of antipasti, salads, pizzas and desserts to share, in the semi-private area to one side. The perfect place to carb-load ahead of a night out in Shoreditch – just save your party tricks for later.

St John
  • Restaurants
  • British
  • Farringdon

What’s the vibe?
All white. Little but floorboards and a few tins of emulsion were used to transform a loading bay into a PDR at Fergus Henderson’s shrine to nose-to-tail eating. The excitement here comes delivered on plates – or platters, in the case of the glorious Feasting Menu, which will have your crew tucking into whole roast suckling pig or pigeon & trotter pie.

Tayyabs
  • Restaurants
  • Indian
  • Whitechapel

What’s the vibe?
The ‘stack ‘em high’ mantra goes for everything – spicy lamb chops, tandoori naan breads, customers – but it’s hard to beat this cut-and-thrust Whitechapel Punjabi for a cracking curry to kick off your night. It’s BYOB, and the local offies command a premium, so bulk-buy your beers before you arrive, and pre-book a table to avoid the queue. Last orders are at a stag-friendly 11.30pm.

  • Bars and pubs
  • Wine bars
  • Camden Market
What’s the vibe?
Half bar, half restaurant, all party, The Cuban is a one-stop shop for your fiesta Latina: killer mojitos, quesadillas and over 150 rums, as well as a menu of Cuban cigars (plus a large courtyard for smoking them) and live music on Fridays. You and the stags will be skipping out a salsa before you can say ‘gringo borracho’. Make sure you reserve a private area.

Fancy a pint?

  • Bars and pubs

Craft beer – interesting, progressive beers made by small-scale breweries, and distinct from real ale – is often explosively hoppy and quite unlike traditional British beer. An increasing number of London bars and pubs are specialising in them. Here's our pick.
