Outdoor sports screens in London
Where to enjoy all the sporting action need this summer, without shelling out for a ticket
You don't have to be a sports junkie to enjoy outdoor sports screenings in London during summer. Watching events like the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and this year's Rugby World Cup at an outdoor screen with crowds of others always provides a great atmosphere. Pull up a deck chair, bring your own bottle and cheer along whatever the weather.

Outdoor sports screens in London
Pergola Olympia
Watch balls fly from the big screen on the botanical rooftop at the new Pergola in west London. Unlike its cousin in Paddington, this Olympia edition is open year-round and primed for good times. Great for organised groups who want to book one of the long tables and line up the jugs of Pimm’s.
St Katharine Docks
This pretty marina, once one of the UK’s busiest tea ports, is now playing host to a British stereotype of a different kind. That’s right, ‘St Kats’ will be showing the whole of Wimbledon on a floating pontoon full of deckchairs.
Skylight London
Some say Skylight’s rooftop has the best views in London. But, while its panoramic vista is something to behold, you’ll also find a load of urban lawn games, a spread of seasonal cocktails and open-air Wimbledon screenings during its opening hours. The matches will be shown on a selection of little screens dotted around the rooftop rather than one big one, so you won’t have to compete for a seat.
St James’s Market
Who needs Centre Court when you have St James Market? Get the best views of open-air screenings of the Wimbledon Championships. See the full tournament from the comfort of a deckchair in the heart of the West End and keep an eye out for local restaurants offering special Wimbledon deals and incentives.
Granary Square
The Wimbledon screenings on the faux-grass steps at the square usually get pretty squished as post-work crowds gather with plastic flutes and bottles of Waitrose prosecco, but the first 50 arrivals can score a free deckchair. And if your fave hits an ace, there are 1,080 choreographed fountain jets right behind to help you cool off. Stick around after the matches for Summer of Love, free open-air film screenings curated by Everyman Cinema.
Flat Iron Square
Sure, there are loads of oversized outdoor screens in London, but not all of them live beside a licensed bar and good people selling pork tacos. Southwark’s food, booze and event spot Flat Iron was the place to be for last year’s World Cup, and they’ll be showing all the Wimbledon matches this year. Couldn’t give a deuce? Just raise a shiraz to Queen Serena at the wine bar, Tap and Bottle.
The Piazza
Where better to watch Wimbledon than, well, Wimbledon? This is a ‘no cost, no queue’ shindig, so just pull up a deckchair and catch some rays while you watch tennis titans battle it out about 1.3 miles away on Centre Court.
Merchant Square
Paddington’s Merchant Square will be showing the entire tournament on its big screen. And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, it’s also their outdoor gaming season, so you can take on your mates (or complete strangers) at real sports like ‘Mario Kart’ and ‘Mario Sports’, in front of a (hopefully) cheering crowd.
Cardinal Place Roof Garden
Westminster’s rooftop garden went full-immersion on the Wimbledon front last year by putting on fitness classes from Frame, Gymbox and Triyoga alongside its usual match screenings as part of Wimbledon Workout Week. They’ll be taking it easy for 2019, focusing on the screenings under the Cardinal canopy.
Open House
As well as a free Sigur Rós gig, a free yoga class from Lululemon and free screenings of ‘Grease’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’, BST's totally free midweek event Open House will include Wimbledon matches, shown on their absolutely enormous Hyde Park screen. And guess what? It’s free.
