We curate an L.A. weekend itinerary of the city's best concerts, culture and cuisine, every week, just for you.

Friday

See the 10 most influential films from this year, as chosen by the Museum of Modern Art, during the Contenders. Tonight's event at the Hammer Museum includes a screening of the Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams led Nocturnal Animals, with a post-film Q&A from director and fashion designer Tom Ford. Advance tickets are sold out, but you can try to pick some up at the box office starting an hour before the show.

If you're closed out of that, catch the latest in the Film Noir series at Union Station. Tonight's event includes the 1949 film Too Late for Tears—which was partially shot at Union Station—screened inside of the historic train depot.

Return to the now-decade-old first release from Islands at Hollywood Forever's Masonic Lodge. The project from Jamie Thompson, of on-again, off-again group the Unicorns and Serial theme fame, will revisit its celebrated Return to the Sea.

Saturday

Start your Saturday off at a pair of holiday markets. Shop more than 50 of the top vintage retailers, both local and national, at A Current Affair at Cooper Design Space. Head to Grand Central Market for unique kitchen, pantry and tabletop finds from retail and culinary pop-ups at the GCM Holiday Marketplace, plus cookie decorating, love local music and tons of tasty eats.

Head to the Egyptian Theatre for A Conversation with Martin Scorsese and Irwin Winkler. Listen to the legendary director and his longtime production partner discuss their modern day classics, from Raging Bull to The Wolf of Wall Street, as well as the upcoming period drama Silence. Advance tickets are sold out, but if there's ever a conversation worth waiting in a stand-by line for, it's this one.

Spend a late night at the Groundlings Theatre for the annual Groundlings Holiday Show. It's a festive, holiday-themed night of sketches and improv—and who knows, you might just witness the next Kristen Wiig on stage.

Sunday

If you're up for a drive and into video games, make your way to the Anaheim Convention Center for the PlayStation Experience. Pick up a controller and strap on a VR headset at this all-things-PlayStation expo with hands-on panels and presentations.

Closer to home, swing by LACMA for the opening of Picasso and Rivera: Conversations Across Time. Examine the ocean-separated ways in which European and Latin American art mined their respective ancient mythologies with 150 works from the two modernist masters.

Indulge in our very own gluttonous tasting event, the Mac and Cheese Smackdown. We'll crown the ultimate mac and cheese contender in the city at Bank of America Plaza in Downtown L.A.

Listen to two of today's most influential voices host an intimate conversation at this discussion between Gloria Steinem and Jill Soloway. The feminist icon will sit down with the Transparent creator for an evening at UCLA's Royce Hall.

End your weekend at Ahmanson Theatre for the opening night of Amélie, A New Musical. Enter the imaginative world of the endearing titular character as she steps from the silver screen and into this reimagined musical.
