A new creative work is breathing new life into Old Castlemaine Gaol. ‘Vantage Point’ will use the prison’s four guard towers to create a metaphoric space in which visitors can explore the act of viewing.
Artist Tara Gilbee will use camera-less photographic techniques – like camera obscura – to transform the towers into participatory studios. The site-specific artwork will also give audiences an insight into the socio-political history of Old Castlemaine Gaol and use light to reveal hidden features of the landscape.
