Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

With infectious energy and a nerdy bowtie, Lawrence Leung gives a feelgood show

Have you ever had the sneaking suspicion you just might be a white supremacist? Neither did Lawrence Leung, until he read online comments saying one of his favourite romantic comedies was #problematic. Suddenly his world was upended, and he discovered his interracial relationship was potentially #problematic too.

White supremacy jokes can be a bit of a risk, but Leung delivers his with such boundless energy and excitement that you can't help but laugh. In his delightful hands, racism and white supremacy aren't agents of terrorism, they're a rich vein for ever more ridiculous jokes. Despite the subject matter, his humour rarely ventures into the realm of the political, instead descending into silliness. And silliness is where Leung wants to be, with an infectious glee at the ridiculousness of his jokes and a gracious good humour that you can't help but share.

He is not the most polished comedian in the festival, sometimes tripping up on his script, but he's having such a good time that no one minds. His laughter lights up the Melba Spiegeltent, and so will yours.
