You know what’s better than going to the cinema, scoffing popcorn and watching a really great movie? Going to an outdoor cinema, scoffing popcorn and watching a really great movie – especially when that outdoor cinema just happens to be situated right by the beach.
Mordi Movies is a pop-up, open-air film experience that will be taking over Peter Scullin Reserve in Mordialloc for the entirety of the Labour Day weekend. The festivities will officially be kicking off on March 10, with an evening session scheduled.
The line-up of flicks is enough to impress any critic. There are plenty of options for the kids – including Happy Feet, The Wizard of Oz and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl – while classics like Romeo + Juliet, Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible will appeal to an older crowd.
Tickets are just $5 and can be redeemed at the on-site Candy Bar, with all proceeds going to the Kingston Charitable Fund. Children aged 12 and under are free, but will still need to be registered for a valid ticket and accompanied by an adult at all times.
In addition to the Candy Bar (which will be dishing out tasty goodies like popcorn and chocolate), there will be food trucks, a bar and plenty of kid-friendly entertainment and activities.
The City of Kingston is also proud to be partnering with the Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), which means that on opening night audiences will be treated to a showing of We’re Doing Well – a short film directed by Andrew Mills, and winner of the Step Right Up Audience Award for Best Short of MQFF21 – in addition to the main feature, Hairspray.
