Time Out says

Who’s afraid of the deep, dark woods? Definitely not the Gruffalo’s Child, because this autumn she’s venturing into the heart of the forest in search of adventure.

During the Easter school holidays the beloved picture book The Gruffalo’s Child will be brought to the Melbourne stage as a magical, musical children’s theatre production. The story is the sequel to Julia Donaldson’s and Alex Scheffler’s 1999 children’s book The Gruffalo

Fans of the original book will remember that the story involves a teensy, tiny mouse going for a walk in the woods and outsmarting predators by telling them about his made up monster called a Gruffalo – only to later discover the Gruffalo is real.

The Gruffalo’s Child flips the story on its head by changing the perspective to that of the Gruffalo (or rather, its brave child) who goes in search of the big, bad mouse that terrified her father in the original book. The Gruffalo was brought to life on stage in Melbourne in 2018, and now the sequel is getting the same treatment.

The Gruffalo’s Child is coming to the Athenaeum Theatre direct from the West End in a production that features music, physical theatre and puppetry. Kids will laugh, sing and maybe even get a spooky thrill as the brave young Gruffalo explores the woods.

You can see The Gruffalo’s Child at the Athenaeum Theatre on weekends from March 28 to April 4. The show is suitable for kids aged three and up.
