The Brunswick Music Festival brings Melburnians the rare opportunity to listen to the powerful voice of Aziza Brahim – the Sahrawi singer who has been dubbed 'queen of the desert blues'. Based in Barcelona but born as a refugee in Western Sahara, her music traverses her desert roots, early years spent in Cuba and her adopted home in Spain. A common thread through her music is the plight of the Saharawi people and their struggle for recognition.
