There are few names in jazz – or indeed any music – that hold quite the same heft as 14-time Grammy winning pianist Herbie Hancock. Not only has he been at the forefront of jazz's evolution throughout the latter half of the 21st century, composing 'Cantaloupe Island', 'Watermelon Man' and 'Chameleon', he's also responsible for blurring the boundaries between jazz and other musical forms. His Joni Rivers covers album, River: The Joni Letters, won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and saw him collaborate with Leonard Cohen, Norah Jones and Tina Turner. He's also teamed up with Annie Lennox, Snoop Dogg and Pink.
Hancock is performing two shows at Hamer Hall with his band to close this year's Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Tickets start at $79.
