Time Out says

Celebrate Australia at this family-friendly outdoor event in Melbourne's west

Gather up a crew of your family and friends and head down to McNish Reserve in Yarraville for the Stony Creek Music Festival on Australia Day for a day of live music entertainment, community market stalls, food trucks and kid-friendly workshops to keep the little ones occupied.

Local bands set to deliver the tunes on the day include The Age Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2010 inductees The Painters and Dockers, Nick Barker and the Heartache State, The Mud Cakes, Jadida, High Voltage Rock School and more. Earlier in the day, kids can get involved with a straw hat-decorating workshop, or play in the public playground which features a three-metre-high dinosaur called Mimi the Muttaburrasaurus.

The festival's park setting means bringing along the picnic kit is very much recommended, so don't forget to pack a hamper if you feel like it, and a picnic blanket and some shade if needed.
