Do you know what it means when people talk about the path towards Treaty? Treaty is a significant step towards addressing the harmful and racist impacts of Western invasion, providing First Peoples self-determination, and giving all people in Victoria the chance to live in a better, fairer society.
To raise awareness and support for the path towards Treaty, an incredible line-up of First Nations performers are hosting a one-day-only concert in Shepparton this summer. Treaty Day Out is an outdoor community concert starring the likes of Briggs, Electric Fields, Archie Roach, Mo'Ju, Alice Skye, No Fixed Address, Marlon x Rulla, Scott Darlow, Madi Colville Walker, and Wulumbarra. It's a pretty big line-up made all the bigger by the fact that Yothu Yindi, the iconic band known for their song 'Treaty', is set to headline the event.
Treaty Day Out comes from the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria and has been organised to coincide with the by-election in which Aboriginal people in the state's north-east will vote for who they'd like to represent them in the Treaty process.
In addition to the concert, Treaty Day Out will also have craft stalls, activities, food trucks and even a vaccination van in attendance. Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people receive free entry to the concert if they're enrolled in the First Peoples’ Assembly (if you're eligible but not yet enrolled, do so here). For non-Aboriginal and unenrolled guests, tickets are $50.
Treaty Day Out is on at Rumbalara Football Netball Club, Shepparton from 2pm on February 26.
